WITCHCRAFT IN EUROPE 400-1700: A documentary history, 2nd edition (Review) — 2 Comments

    • Unfortunately there is no history of the witch persecutions other than this one that I can recommend, except perhaps Ramsay MacMullen’s Christianity and Paganism in the Fourth to Eighth Centuries, which covers a different time period than this book. This article by Max Dashu explains why it’s a problem at this time. Basically, biases have gotten worse, and earlier accounts had tainted data. If you can read German or Italian, I’ve been told there are a few good books in those languages. And I hope I haven’t turned you off from reading this book. In an area as contentious as this, there’s really no substitute for looking at original sources.
